Asparagus meyeri Seeds – Foxtail Fern Harvest

Asparagus meyeri Seeds – Foxtail Fern Harvest

We’re currently harvesting seeds from our Asparagus meyeri, commonly known as Foxtail Fern, here at Elfland Nursery in Elfin Forest, California.

The berries ripen slowly and are collected one by one as they turn a deep red. This is always a rewarding part of the process, as it marks the transition from plant to viable seed. These plants have been established on the property for years and continue to produce consistently each season.

After harvesting, the berries are processed to separate the seed from the pulp. Like many Asparagus species, this step requires careful handling to ensure clean seed and good viability.

Asparagus meyeri is a well-known ornamental species valued for its dense, upright growth and soft, tail-like foliage. It is widely used in landscaping and container planting, and seed propagation remains an important method for producing strong, adaptable plants.

More updates from ongoing harvests and seed processing will follow as the season continues.
