Encephalartos latifrons, commonly known as the Albany Cycad, is regarded as one of the rarest and most endangered cycads in the world. Native to South Africa's Eastern Cape, this extraordinary species is prized for its broad, dark green leaves, impressive architectural form, and extreme rarity in cultivation.
With fewer than a hundred mature plants believed to remain in the wild, Encephalartos latifrons is protected internationally and is considered a true collector's species. Viable seed is produced only through carefully managed hand pollination in cultivated collections, making fresh seed exceptionally scarce.
This listing offers five fresh seeds harvested in July 2026. Because this species is rarely available, this is a unique opportunity for serious cycad collectors and experienced growers to obtain fresh propagation material.

Important Germination Information
Freshly harvested Encephalartos latifrons seeds should not be planted immediately. Research has shown that the embryos continue to mature after harvest, and allowing the seeds to rest in proper storage for at least six months before sowing can significantly improve germination. Some professional growers store seed for even longer before planting.
For best results, store the seeds in a cool, dry, well-ventilated location until they have completed this post-harvest maturation period.
