Cycas taitungensis, commonly known as Emperor Sago, is a distinctive and uncommon cycad endemic to eastern Taiwan, where its natural populations are concentrated in the Taitung region. It is an ancient, highly ornamental species valued by cycad collectors and specialty growers for its substantial trunk, long glossy green leaves, and impressive architectural form.
Although it resembles the familiar Cycas revoluta, Cycas taitungensis has traditionally been recognized as a distinct Taiwanese cycad. Its leaves can reach approximately 6 feet in length, and mature plants can eventually develop trunks reaching approximately 13–16 feet under suitable conditions. It is also known for being more vigorous in growth than Cycas revoluta.
These seeds are from our fresh 2026 harvest and are offered in limited quantities for collectors, specialty nurseries, and growers interested in uncommon cycad species.

Germination & Cultivation
Cycas taitungensis seeds naturally contain an underdeveloped embryo at maturity and can take considerable time to germinate.
Seeds should be sown in a warm, well-draining propagation medium and kept consistently moist without remaining waterlogged. Patience is important with this species, as germination can occur gradually rather than all seeds emerging simultaneously.
Its rarity, Taiwanese origin, impressive mature form, and vigorous growth for a cycad make Cycas taitungensis an excellent addition to serious cycad collections and specialty nursery production.
