Chambeyronia pyriformis, formerly and still widely known in cultivation as Kentiopsis pyriformis, is a distinctive and uncommon palm endemic to southeastern New Caledonia.
This elegant species develops a solitary, slender trunk and a crown of large pinnate leaves. One of its most striking features is the prominent crownshaft, which can display copper, reddish, or purplish tones with a light waxy coating, giving mature specimens a particularly ornamental appearance.
In its native habitat, Chambeyronia pyriformis occurs in lowland wet forest in a restricted area of southern Grande Terre, New Caledonia. Its naturally limited distribution and distinctive appearance make it particularly interesting to palm collectors, specialty growers, and botanical collections.
The species name pyriformis refers to the characteristic pear-shaped form of the seed.
