Spathodea campanulata, commonly known as African Tulip Tree, is a striking tropical flowering tree prized for its spectacular clusters of large, brilliant orange-red flowers.
Native to tropical Africa, this highly ornamental tree develops a broad crown of lush, pinnately compound foliage. The dramatic, tulip-shaped flowers are produced in prominent clusters above the foliage, creating an impressive display on mature trees. Flower buds are distinctive, with a velvety brown exterior and a water-filled interior.
Following flowering, the tree produces elongated woody capsules containing numerous lightweight, winged seeds.
African Tulip Tree is widely grown throughout tropical and subtropical regions as a specimen, shade, avenue, and landscape tree. Its bold foliage, substantial size, and exceptionally colorful flowers make it particularly suited to large gardens, tropical landscapes, parks, and specialty plant collections.
